Hello friends, this post will give you detailed information on causes, prevention, Cure (home remedies,treatment,Nutrients) for bodybuilding stretch marks.


If you are the person who has bodybuilding stretch marks then don’t worry you are not the only one, Nearly 70-80% of people are suffering from these stretch mark problems.

Don’t take those stretch marks too seriously, it is not a bad thing it is just an outcome that came from your hard workout in the gym. 

Most important, stretch marks are not the symptoms of any disease or nutrient deficiency. They are just signs of too fast body growth.

Mainly stretch marks are seen in pregnant women,at the time of puberty and bodybuilding peoples. As there is rapid growth seen in them, due to which there is a stretching of the skin and this excessive stretching of skin give rise to scars.

That stretch mark color varies from person to person. Mainly seen colors are Purple, red, pink, grey, and white.

1. What are the Causes of Bodybuilding Stretch Marks?

In simple language: They are the scars tissue, For example, as we pop a pimple we see the mark on the face this mark appears due to this type of tissue i.e a dead cell.

This stretch mark appears on workout person/ bodybuilder due to excessive or fast growth of muscle in their body. Sometimes those stretch marks also be caused due to genetic factors.

Commonly seen areas of the body where stretch marks appear are arms, chest, shoulder, thighs, and lower back region. Those are the region where excessive stretching of the skin occurs during workouts.

Our skin is made of three layers epidermis, dermis, and Hypodermis.

  • Epidermis: Is the outer protective layer of skin.
  • Hypodermis: Is the innermost layer that helps in the storage of fat and insulation of the body.
  • Dermis: Its main function is to give structure to the skin.

The dermis is the layer responsible for the formation of stretch marks. The dermis consists of two-layer i.e elastin and collagen.

Here in this dermis layer, any change in the quantity of the collagen and elastin cell causes the formation of a scar i.e stretch mark.

For understanding why stretch marks occur you have to understand the terms fibroblast.

Fibroblast helps in formation of collagen and elastin cells.Hence less the quantity of fibroblast lesser is the formation of collagen and elastin cell and more is the formation of stretch marks.

Main reason for less production of fibroblast is

  • Genetical. ( Present in gene,transfer from parent to child)
  • Increase in production of the hormone cortisol.

Here are few reason which can increase the production of cortisol.

  • Stress.
  • Over-exercising.
  • Medication side-effects.
  • Adrenal gland dysfunction.
  • Pregnancy also leads to an increase in cortisol levels.

Hence due to less presence of collagen and elastic fiber in the dermis layer when your skin gets to stretch the end of this fiber gets damaged and as the skin heals up the stretch marks appear.

Here is a list of reasons that cause stretching of the skin which leads to stretch marks:

  • Excessive weight gaining people. ( Weight gain may be due to fat or protein).
  • Excessive loss of weight.
  • Rapid growth during puberty.
  • It may be genetic. ( From parents to son)
  • Excessive workout as a beginner.
  • Use of corticosteroids( For relieving the pain caused due to workout).
  • Some of the underlying hormonal problems.
  • Use of anabolic hormone(muscle-building hormone).
  • These are some of the disorders that show stretches marks: Scleroderma Cushing syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Marfan Syndrome.

2. How to Prevent Bodybuilding Stretch Marks?

1. Always be hydrated. 

As we know, there are tremendous health benefits of the hydrated body. It is said that hydrated skin is less prone to catch the stretch mark as compared to dry skin. Research suggests that a person should drink 50 ml of water per kilogram of their body weight.

If you are a person who uses some of the protein supplements for increasing body muscle, then your body needs a large amount of water. Because this water will help you in reducing the risk of kidney stones.

Avoid eating those foods in large amounts, if you drink less amount of water: alcohol, ginger, caffeine, and other diuretic effects showing foods.

2. Try to avoid sudden weight loss or weight gain of the body.

This is a difficult thing to do for many people who have just joined a gym because our main motto to join the gym is to reduce our body fat and gain some muscle. 

Mainly stretch marks are seen due to weight gain as compared to weight loss. Some people are too fast that they want to build their muscle in a few months, but it is totally wrong.

Using protein supplements may not cause that must harm/ stretch mark to our body. But the use of steroids will help you to increase weight rapidly but it is harmful and a nearly 70% chance arises that it will show stretch marks on your body.

  • Always warm up your body, it will help to lubricate your skin and muscle.
  • Apply any of the following oils on the area where stretch marks arise Neroli oil, Lavender oil, rosehip oil, almond oil, and pomegranate oil. ( Use it with a carrier oil like coconut oil)
  • Always follow, low to high workout pattern. ( i.e less weight to heavyweight)

3. Can We Remove Bodybuilding Stretch Marks?

 There are many ways that will help you in removing your stretch, but not completely. According to many experts stretch mark can’t be removed it just can be fainted(Dimmed). Here I have given some of the costly and cheapest ways for decreasing the appearance of stretch marks.

Let’s start with some of the cheapest ways i.e

1. Home remedies for stretch marks:

Eggs: Remove egg white from 2-3 eggs. For boosting its effect you may add a vitamin E capsule to it mix it well and massage on your stretch mark area.

It is one of the best home remedies which has an effective effect on decrease the appearance of stretch marks.

Eggs are rich in the content of protein i.e amino acid which helps in repairing damaged cells. Vitamin E is one of the important nutrient of stretch marks removing cream, due to its collagen-boosting ability,

Aloe vera gel: Apply aloe vera gel on stretch marks massage it for nearly 2-3 minutes. Leave it for 15-20 minutes, then wash it. Do this daily for the best result.

Aloe vera has many skin benefits it has been used from ancient times for curing many skin diseases. Alvera helps in removing damaged cells.

A mixture of sugar, coconut oil, and lemon juice: Mix 1cup of coconut oil in 1/2 cup of sugar along with 2 teaspoon lemon juice mix it well. massage and leave it for 10 -15 minutes. 

Sugar– helps in improving blood circulation in that area which in terms helps in healing the broken cells.

Coconut oil – helps in improving the elasticity of the skin and increases wound healing.

Firstly I will suggest you, Many people have used varieties of cream but no cream has satisfied them. This cream can only fade the appearance of stretch marks. Now it totally depends on you?

3. Treatment:

As the name suggests, it’s consists of microneedles that are poked into our skin, which stimulates the production of collagen fiber. Due to which there is the regeneration of skin and reduction of stretch marks.

2. Laser stretch mark treatment:

Is Vaseline good for stretch marks?

Yes, Vaseline/ any type of moisture is good for stretch mark prevention. But it only can prevent the upcoming stretch marks on your body but can’t cure it.
Apply any type of moisture in the area where, you thinking the stretch mark may appear.

4. Conclusion/Summary:

Stretch marks do not harm our body, nor they are signs of any disorder they are just scar tissue ( Dead tissue). If you are a gym person then a stretch mark on your body is a good sign i.e you are gaining muscles.

Stretch marks at the initial stages are easy to remove and can be prevented, by just using some of the home remedies and having a proper diet.

One of my favorite and effective home remedies is massaging your stretch mark part with egg yolk. For preventing stretch marks your diet should be rich in nutrients like protein, ZInc, omega-3-fatty acid, vitamin C, and E.

If it is not the initial stage i.e your stretch marks are somewhat whitish in color then you can use some of the stretch marks removing creams. (Don’t recommend any of the creams)

No, cream will give you a guarantee, that it will remove your stretch mark. According to my opinion leave those stretch marks as it is, as the time passes the stretch marks will fade up.

If you are a public figure i.e you have to show your body to others, then you may go with any one of the cosmetic treatments.
